Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Blue & Red Rescue Team Review

Blue was the first game of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series that I had but I also played Red, too. There aren't many differences so there's not much point in getting both, Nintendo made them so that you could play the game even if you hadn't yet got the Nintendo DS which had recently been released. Clever thinking, Nintendo. Too bad they don't do things like that anymore.

The game starts with a fun little quiz that you fill out and it chooses a personality that suits the questions you answered. That personality then determins what Pokémon you should be, after you select your gender, of course. The test itself is really interesting, you get a veriety of funny questions and answers, some make you think and others you can answer right away. It is also very interesting to see what personality and Pokémon you turn out to be since this will represent you as you play through the game.

After the test you get to choose your Partner Pokémon. There are many different Pokémon you can choose from to acompany you as you play, however you are unable to choose a Pokémon of the same type as the one you got from taking the quiz. You can understand why (because of type disadvantages, etc.), but it would have been pretty interesting to be able to have a Team of the same type of Pokémon.

Playing through this game is a very interesting and fun experience. While the plot isn't as origional as other games, the idea of actually being the Pokémon other than a human makes playing this game alot more fun. Working out moves and tactics to suit you and your partner is a whole lot different to 6-Pokémon battling. The whole "be-the-Pokémon" idea made a nice change to the usual "trainer" versions of Pokémon games.

It is a shame this game is so short. Of corse when you complete the main game there is alot more to offer but the overall game is still short. It would have been interesting to try out using lots of different Pokémon to play a storyline, instead of your usual main character and his right hand Poké'. You can change the Pokémon you are to one of your recruits once you've beat the main storyline, but the story after that is not as exiting, and your character does not talk anymore. It's pretty disapointing, but you can't let that distract you from the awesomeness of the game, right?

Overall, this was a pretty amazing game. It was good to have a break from being a trainer and enjoy being and talking to Pokémon! It should have been longer, that would have made the game much better, but I can't complain about what we have already. There are very few flaws in this game, and I really enjoyed playing it. I would recomend it to you all.
